R+D+i Projects
National Cooperation Projects
Activa Multimèdia has taken part for several years now in various national and European programs, which have drawn on cutting-edge technology and R+D+i in the supply of multimedia content and solutions for television.
i3media (CENIT 2006) (2007 - 2010)
The project’s main goals are to research and develop technology for the automatic creation and management of intelligent audiovisual objects for creating rich content in several fields of application platforms, (audiovisual media, leisure, industry, etc.).
The project expands its research in: image processing; computer vision; graphic computation; semantic computation and audiovisual ontology; audio technology; voice synthesis and computational linguistics; context-sensitive image recovery.
i3media was designed to provide a framework facilitating the development of new products by the partners over the medium term and to encourage greater participation in FP7 and other international research projects.
Participants:MEDIAPRO, Telefónica I+D, Alcatel - Lucent España, Activa Multimedia, Brainstorm Multimedia, Corporació Catalana de Ràdio i Televisió, Media Planning Group, STT, Raditech, Infospeech and Noufer.
SincroMHP (PROFIT 2006)
This project encourages the production of interactive services for DTT, synchronized with program broadcasts.
The general adoption of synchronized services may boost development of interactive DTT. But for this to be possible, technological advances and hands-on experience will be needed to simplify the use of these services in program production centers and at broadcasting stations.
Dynamic management of synchronized services allows for more efficient broadband management for interactive services. This makes it possible to offer users a comprehensive range of services round the clock.
Participants:RTVE, TVC, Retevision, Activa Multimedia.
METEO HD (PROFIT 2006)
The project’s main objective is to furnish an automatic 3D weather graphics generation system that is based on real meteorological models and is suitable for TV production and broadcasting in HD video format.
The imminent creation and adaptation of TV channels to DTT in Spain, and the technological migration of production and broadcast equipment to high-definition formats have encouraged us to explore the evolution of existing automatic graphics generation systems to systems based on HD-compatible, 3D high-resolution graphics.
The system would permit both the generation of 3D graphics as well as the combination of graphics with HD video signals for presenting weather forecasts that incorporate data with images from an external HD video signal.
Participants:Brainstorm, Activa Multimedia
T&M Administració (CIDEM 2006)
The aim of the project is to carry out a comprehensive experiment allowing the Public Administration to communicate and interact with its citizens through DTT and mobile telephony.
•Universality. One of the project’s main goals is to offer the same types of services that are currently available on the Internet to as many people as possible.
• Inclusion of groups of people that have difficulties accessing Internet services (e-inclusion).
• Optimizing the dissemination of information from the Public Administration and its interaction with citizens.
People will obtain the following functionalities:
• Access to Public Administration content via DTT.
• Acces to content from cellphones via WAP and Video Portals.
Participants: Tempos 21, TRADIA, Activa Multimedia
MEDTV+ (PROFIT 2005)
The purpose of this project is to follow up the research begun with MEDTV (Measurement of Digital TV audiences), which obtained PROFIT funds from the Ministry of Industry in 2004.
MEDTV 2004 found that the audience measurement techniques that were improvised for the digital field were not wholly appropriate. A new open, inter-operable audience measurement model was therefore developed for digital TV.
Participants: Fresh Interactive Technologies, TVC Netmèdia, and the Madrid Polytechnical University (UPM).
TVD in 3G (PROFIT 2005)
Project in collaboration with Tempos 21, aimed at investigating synergy between 3G cell phones supporting video signals and interactive TV.
Cell phones for user identification, cell phones as payment platforms for PPV (Pay-per-View) services and cell phone videos for publication on TV are just some of the lines of research in a broadcasting environment (DTT and MHP).
EPG in MHP (PROFIT 2005)
Project in collaboration with Inout TV for developing EPG in MHP with advanced applications, allowing TV viewers to access and personalize content.
Sam automatically presents weather forecasts for any city in the world. He moves and speaks very naturally, and works tirelessly 24 hours a day, 365 days a year.
Participants: The project was led by TVC Netmèdia in collaboration with the Barcelona Media center for innovation, the Interactive Technologies Group at Pompeu Fabra University, and the La Salle Engineering School, Ramon Llull University.
The project is supported by the Secretary for Industry and Energy, Department of Employment and Industry, Catalan Government - CIDEM.
MEDTV (PROFIT 2004)
www.gatv.ssr.upm.es/medtv
This project aimed to provide a framework model for measuring digital television audiences.
This model is an abstract one, allowing implementation through alternative technologies in each of its modules.
One of the project stages involves carrying out various simulations following the priorities set by the firms producing the industrial prototypes.
The project aims to provide answers to the various digitalization scenarios likely to arise in the near future.
Participants: Fresh Interactive Technologies, TVC Netmèdia, Telvium S.L., and the Madrid Polytechnical University.
INFOTRAFFIC TV (PROFIT 2004)
Project for developing a system displaying real-time traffic information, employing automatic data-gathering from multiple sources.
Infotráfico TV generates maps in real time and includes live images from road CCRTV cameras for TV broadcasts.
TV for All (PROFIT 2004)
The project investigated initiatives for ensuring universal digital TV access, and established the development priorities for the sector.
Subtitles, sign language and audio-description are just some of the services that are being used in analog TV that will be enhanced through the introduction of digital technology.
Participants: Formato Multimedia, Asimelec, TVC Netmèdia, and the Institute of Public Law, King Juan Carlos University
Activa Multimèdia collaborated in most of the projects as TVC Netmèdia Audiovisual up until the creation of the new company in January 2006 as the result of its merger with Activa 3.
